Round Ligament Pain, Sciatica, and Other Pregnancy Aches: How To Find Relief

Your body changes fast during pregnancy. Your center of gravity shifts forward, your pelvis widens, and the hormone relaxin loosens your ligaments to prepare for birth. All of that is normal, but it can leave you sore in places you never expected.

Common pregnancy aches

  • Round ligament pain: a sharp, pulling pain in the lower belly or groin, often when you stand up, roll over, or sneeze. It's most common in the second trimester as the ligaments supporting your uterus stretch.
  • Sciatica: shooting or burning pain from the low back or buttock down the leg, often on one side.
  • SI joint and low back pain: a dull ache near the dimples of your low back that's worse with walking or climbing stairs.
  • Pubic bone pain: pain at the front of the pelvis, especially when getting out of the car or turning in bed.
  • Rib and upper back pain: often shows up later in pregnancy as baby grows upward.

Simple things that help at home

  • Roll to your side before getting out of bed, and keep your knees together when you move
  • Sleep with a pillow between your knees
  • Stay active with walking, swimming, or prenatal yoga
  • Wear supportive, flat shoes

The Webster Technique

The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic approach focused on balancing the pelvis, especially the sacrum (your 'tailbone'), and on relaxing the muscles and ligaments that attach to it and to the uterus.

Why does that matter? When the pelvis is out of balance, the ligaments supporting your uterus can pull unevenly. That tension can contribute to round ligament pain, sciatica, and low back pain. It can also leave baby with less room to move. A balanced pelvis means less strain on you and more space for baby to get into the best possible position for birth.

Adjustments are gentle and safe throughout pregnancy, and we use pregnancy-friendly tables and pillows so you can stay comfortable, even late in the third trimester.
