Hydration Hacks!

Jul 30, 2025

We all know hydration is crucial — especially in the summer heat — but did you know that just drinking more water isn’t always enough?

If you’ve ever felt like you’re chugging water all day and still feeling tired, dry, or running to the bathroom constantly, you may need to balance your electrolytes. Electrolytes (like sodium, potassium, and magnesium) help your body actually use the water you're drinking and prevent it from just flushing out.

How to Stay Truly Hydrated

Add a pinch of sea salt
A small pinch of high-mineral salt (like Celtic or pink Himalayan salt) in your water helps the body hold onto hydration more effectively.

 DIY electrolyte drink
Here’s a simple, clean electrolyte recipe you can make at home:

  • 16 oz filtered water
  • Juice of ½ lemon or lime
  • 1/8 tsp sea salt
  • 1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup
  • Optional: splash of coconut water for added potassium

 Eat water-rich foods
Cucumber, watermelon, oranges, strawberries, lettuce, zucchini, and even celery are loaded with water and minerals. A summer salad can hydrate as much as a glass of water!

 Balance water with minerals
Drinking only plain water in high volumes can actually flush minerals out of your system, leading to electrolyte imbalance. This is why many people feel better when their water intake includes mineral support.

What About Sports Drinks?

Sports drinks were originally created to replenish electrolytes for elite athletes — but modern versions are loaded with sugar, artificial colors, preservatives, and chemical additives.

🧃 Most mainstream sports drinks contain:

  • Artificial dyes (like Red 40, Yellow 5)
  • High fructose corn syrup or refined sugars
  • Artificial sweeteners in “zero” or “light” versions (like sucralose or aspartame)
  • Synthetic flavorings and emulsifiers

These ingredients may lead to energy crashes, hyperactivity in kids, or gut irritation — especially if you're drinking them regularly.

🌿 Clean Electrolyte Alternatives

If you want a more natural and functional way to stay hydrated, try:

  • LMNT – Zero sugar, no junk, just sodium, magnesium, and potassium. Great for adults who sweat a lot.
  • Redmond Re-Lyte – Made from real salt and coconut water powder.
  • Nuun – A good on-the-go tablet option; lower sugar, though some flavors use stevia.
  • Coconut water – Naturally rich in potassium, and a good base for homemade electrolyte drinks.
  • Homemade option (see recipe above!) – Customize it to your taste and needs.

🌞 Summer Wellness Tip:

Start your morning with a glass of mineral-rich water before your coffee. It sets the tone for energy, digestion, and focus all day — especially when the temperatures soar.
